Domestic Violence/Strangulation Collaboration for Improved Outcomes

This training will emphasize collaboration in caring for victims and patients of domestic violence and strangulation, and the potential for traumatic brain injury (TBI) resulting from such incidents. Topics will include the lethality and physiological effects of strangulation, as well as the medical evaluation and treatment necessary following these events. A detective will provide insights into investigating strangulation cases, and an attorney will review the legal framework, including the strangulation statute and strategies for prosecution. Additionally, a survivor of strangulation and TBI will share her experiences, highlighting the profound impact of these events.  She will also address rewiring trauma’s impact.

There is no fee for this conference due to funding awarded by the Office of Criminal Justice Services, Ohio Department of Public Safety.

OPOTA CPTs, CLEs, Advocacy continuing education is approved.

Registered nurses that attend 80% of activity and complete an evaluation with attestation will receive 6.75 nursing contact hours.

Learner Outcomes for Nursing:

• Forensic nurses will have improved knowledge of nonfatal strangulation as a lethal form of domestic violence.

• Forensic nurses will have improved awareness of the multidisciplinary collaboration necessary when addressing domestic violence including strangulation cases.
