Job Description And Duties

Patton State Hospital Human Resources Department is accepting applications for at least one (1) Permanent, Intermittent appointment to the Registered Nurse classification in Registry. The Permanent, Intermittent, Registered Nurses are under the direct supervision of the Central Staffing Office Unit Supervisor and the general supervision of the Program/Unit of their assignment.

Registered Nurse responsibilities include but are not limited to: providing direct nursing care, treatment, and rehabilitation to clients/patients, providing direction to other personnel who assist them in providing such care, assisting physicians as directed, providing general psychiatric nursing care to clients/patients, assisting in planning and evaluating both physical and mental nursing care of assigned patients, assisting physicians as directed, taking independent action within professional preparation and legal limits, assisting in training other nursing personnel and ancillary staff as assigned, working with other disciplines as part of a treatment team to provide overall treatment program for the patient. Tasks include administration of oral medication and hypodermic injections, blood drawing and immunizations, assessing patient's physical and mental condition and reporting significant changes to physician and unit supervisor, recording data in nursing notes, preparing and caring for patients during treatment, providing first aid as necessary, performing custody tasks which include escorting patients in the facility and in the community, searching for drugs, contraband, and weapons, inspecting patients' mail for hazardous material, inspecting facilities to identify security breaches that could lead to an escape, observing and intervening in patient behavior that may injure people, damage property, or signal impending escape attempts.

Permanent Intermittent Registered Nurse scheduling is maintained and controlled by the Central Staffing Office. Permanent Intermittent employees are required to work a minimum of 96 hours per month. 48 hours must be scheduled during the weekend. All newly hired Permanent Intermittent Registered Nurses will be placed on primary shifts. Newly hired Registered Nurses will be placed on the NOC 12 shift (1830-0700). The 96 hour monthly minimum must be worked on the assigned primary shift . Shifts and dates available for Permanent Intermittent Registered Nurses to work each month are opened and identified by the Central Staffing Office monthly. The open shifts change from month to month based on hospital staffing needs. Those specific dates and shifts will be the only times that can be scheduled for work. Successful candidates will be orientated to the Internal Registry Rules in detail by the Central Staffing Office. Registered Nurses are required to work 12 hour shifts with the exceptions of Wednesday.
