Position DESCRIPTION
Role and Responsibilities
The Forensic Education Specialist will report to and work closely with the Director of Education and will be responsible for agency operations, program management, and providing training for the education department. The Forensic Education Specialist is responsible for implementing organizational objectives and goals while strengthening existence and creating new community partnerships in support of Forensic Nursing Network’s (FNN) mission.
The Forensic Education Specialist for FNN is a current forensic nurse that is passionate about teaching and collaborating with forensic nurses, healthcare workers, law enforcement, and community stakeholders on key principles related to the medical, mental, and aftercare of the forensic patient. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. This individual will inspire, mentor, and teach all interested parties on the aspects of trauma-informed patient-centered forensic care.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ experience is requested.
- Ohio RN licensure in good standing.
- SANE-A, SANE-P, GFN-C, or AFN-C certification preferred. Will obtain certification within one year of employment.
- Engage community partners and team in statewide health initiatives related to forensic nursing.

Additional Responsibilities
- Act as a liaison with community groups, including involvement in SARTs/CCRTs, and offer community education on relevant issues.
- Collaborate with FNN leaders to establish the needs of the state and plan educational opportunities accordingly.
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
- Continually evaluate and update provided forensic education based on state and national standards and recommendations.
- Serve as a mentor for forensic nurses as needed to continue to enhance their programs and provide quality patient care.
- Develop working relationships with community partners.
